Bobby Hird re-releases first solo CD on adobo

Adobo artist Bobby Hird has agreed to re-release his unlabeled first solo CD effort, Heartbeat Away, first appearing in January of 2001, on Adobo.

This collector’s item contains many gems from Bobby. As usual, Bobby pooled the extraordinary talent of many accomplished musicians and a few not usually known for their musical prowess. You remember the TV show Lost? The record contains a few tunes co-written and/or performed with actor Terry O’Quinn, who played pilot John Locke on the series. Terry lends his writing talents and beautiful tenor voice to this recording.

The CD also features two songs from the soundtrack of the public service video, “Heroin Kills,” including the title track from the video. The video was distributed to libraries and anti-drug coalitions nationwide and was initially released in 1999.

The Heartbeat Away release was recorded at Sheffield Studios. Tracks include: Heartbeat Away, Crazy At Home, Sweet Commotion, Counting On You, Good Enough For Me, It’s Time, Girl Wonder (studio version), Poundin’ Down The Sweets, Heroin Kills, and Liam’s Blues.

The CD is available in our store, in limited quantities.

Adobo on the move

Adobo will be releasing music from a batch of artists in the upcoming months, some existing Adobo artists and a couple of new ones too.

Urch perch

First on the docket is a step back to the beginnings of the psychedelic age, with a group who pioneered the genre in the late 60s. Urch Perch was a Baltimore band that recorded a demo tape, recorded in mono (stereo FM was not prevalent back then, the only outlet for progressive and popular music then was monaural AM radio) and produced by the legendary George Massenburg. The band was scouted by Frank Zappa at one point.

Five songs have recently been discovered, recorded way back when, and have been digitized, restored and remastered. Their music stays alive with its release of “From the Vault (January 1967)” on Adobo Records on March 17, 2023. Available on all streaming outlets. Adobo is pleased to present this bit of music history.

John THe Baptist

Another new Adobo artist on the docket is John The Baptist, spearheaded by singer/songwriter John Blackwell. No, contrary to what you may think, it’s not a Christian Rock offering, but rather a very engaging eclectic collection of songs written and sung by John. Stylistically primarily rock, some dark, some tender, some tongue-in-cheek, some with orchestral arrangements and jazz.

The Adobo release date for this very interesting collection of 11 tracks is April 7, 2023.

Tim Steele

Veteran Adobo artist Tim Steele has completed his next offering, Being Next To Her, and is available on April 15th, 2023. On this track, Tim played drums, guitars, keyboards, bass, and sang all vocals. David Bell joined in with some very tasteful and on-point guitar work as well.

Not yet scheduled for release will be a CD collection of TIm’s previously released singles, tentatively titled “Earth Waves.” At present we’re trying to get it released sometime in May 2023.

Bobby Hird

Nearing completion is the CD release of Bobby’s third solo offering, entitled “Hird Immunity.” Bobby is a veteran of international favorite progressive band Crack The Sky, as well as the Ravyns, and the Maryland’s legendary favorite Climbadonkey. Hird is also an alumnus of Adobo artist Used To Be Pete.

Look for the “Hird Immunity” release on Adobo summer of 2023.

Mitch Mirkin

Traditional jazz composer Mitch Mirkin was featured with his first CD release “The Madison Avenue Shul,” performed by the Common Roots Jazz Ensemble, and released in December of 2020. In late 2021, the Common Roots Jazz Ensemble recorded the second release of Mitch’s jazz compositions entitled “Rebound.” While completing the final recording mastering for manufacturing and release, Mitch suddenly passed away in early 2022. It was a powerful loss to the Adobo family. After consulting with Mitch’s family, together we agreed to schedule the release of “Rebound,” as a memorial to Mitch. We’re in the process currently of preparing the CD for release (artwork, final duplication, etc.).
